Terms of service

Effective date: 2026-10-16
Catalog Scribe is a service of Internet Physics, Inc.

Who we are

Catalog Scribe is a service of Internet Physics, Inc., a Delaware corporation (Delaware file number 10348328). In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Internet Physics, Inc. acting under the name Catalog Scribe, and "you" means the business that receives our free sample rewrite or places an order with us.

Our services are for businesses only. By placing an order, you confirm that you act for a business and may bind it.

How Catalog Scribe works

We work by email. When you ask for something that these terms and your order confirmation do not answer, we refer it to the officers of Internet Physics, Inc., and the answer reaches you by email from john@catalogscribe.com.

The free sample rewrite

The free sample rewrite costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is not a trial: it never turns into a paid order, and we never ask for payment details to send it. We prepare at most one free sample rewrite for each company, identified by its website domain. We build it only from public sources, as described below, and you may use it as you wish.

The free sample rewrite covers 10 of your own product pages, taken from your public web store. We choose only pages that show a manufacturer part number. For each page it gives the attributes normalized with units, a new title and a new 200-400 word buyer-facing description. The attributes missing from your page or different from the manufacturer's public spec sheet are highlighted, each with a link to that spec sheet. Any attribute we could not find in a public source is left blank and flagged. Where your public category pages show item counts, the sample rewrite also carries a quote applied to your approximate SKU count, which you confirm by reply before any order.

We build it from your public product pages (their current title, description, attributes, manufacturer and part number), your public category pages, and the manufacturers' public spec sheets and datasheets. It needs nothing from you and uses no access to your systems. Descriptions are written new; only factual specs are carried over.

What we do for paying customers

First catalog batch

Your first catalog batch is at least 2,000 SKUs from your catalog, delivered as one import-ready CSV file in your store's or PIM's format (Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce or custom). For each SKU the file contains:

  • attributes taken from the manufacturer's spec sheet or datasheet (technical attributes, certifications and dimensions where stated), each with its source link;
  • units normalized and missing fields filled;
  • a specification table;
  • a new title;
  • a new 200-400 word buyer-facing description;
  • a link to the public spec sheet and manual PDF where they exist;
  • classification into your own taxonomy or a standard one you name (ETIM, ECLASS or UNSPSC);
  • up to seven related-part links where the spec sheet names compatible or accessory parts that are in your export.

The file comes with a duplicate list of SKUs that share a manufacturer and part number or differ only in a variant attribute, and a flag list of SKUs whose specs could not be verified. Values we could not verify are left blank, never guessed. Before delivery we check the file against your import template (columns, required fields, units).

Your first batch starts with a 300-SKU pilot taken from your export. We first propose a category schema built from the spec-sheet attributes, for your one-time approval. We deliver the 300-SKU pilot within 5 business days after you approve the category schema. You then grade the pilot and approve it before the rest of the batch runs.

For thirty days after delivery we fix values you report as wrong, as our guarantee page describes.

What you send us. With your first order, once: a product export with the SKU, manufacturer, part number and current fields for every SKU in the batch; the name of your store or PIM platform and its import template; and your own taxonomy file, if you have one. During the work: your approval of the category schema and your grading of the pilot, by email.

How we work with your systems. We never log into your web store, ERP or PIM. You import the file yourself.

Later catalog batch

A later catalog batch covers further SKUs from your catalog, for example categories left after your first batch. It is at least 2,000 SKUs and gets the same work, file and lists as your first batch, in the format and taxonomy already agreed. A later batch has no pilot. You send the export of the SKUs in it with its order.

Upkeep pass

The upkeep pass is optional and offered quarterly. It covers the new and changed SKUs in a list you send us, for example after a new manufacturer line or revised datasheets. We do the same work on those SKUs as in a batch and deliver an import-ready file in the same format. An upkeep pass has no pilot. Each pass is a new order that you place by sending a list and accepting its order form; nothing is ordered or charged on its own.

What's not included

  • No logging into or editing the distributor's web store, ERP or PIM (the distributor imports the file)
  • No live connectors or two-way sync
  • No product photography, images or videos
  • No pricing, stock or ratings data
  • No marketplace syndication
  • No guarantee of traffic or sales
  • No copying of manufacturer description text (descriptions are written new; only factual specs are carried over)

Prices and billing

All prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales tax that applies by law. We bill only the events this section names; our own errors, retries and failed checks are never billed. We do not ask for payment details before you accept an order, and we start paid work only after you accept it as described in "How orders are made".

First catalog batch. USD 1.60 per SKU, minimum batch 2,000 SKUs (USD 3,200). The batch total is USD 1.60 times the number of SKUs in your order form. Each first batch starts with a 300-SKU pilot that is part of the batch: if you reject the pilot, the order ends and nothing is owed. If you approve it, 50% of the batch is invoiced then and 50% on delivery, each by invoice sent by email and paid by bank transfer (ACH or wire) to the account named on the invoice. Nothing is invoiced before you approve the pilot.

Later catalog batch. USD 1.60 per SKU, minimum batch 2,000 SKUs (USD 3,200), with the total worked out the same way. A later batch has no pilot, so 50% of it is invoiced when you accept its order form and 50% on delivery, each by invoice sent by email and paid by bank transfer (ACH or wire) to the account named on the invoice.

Upkeep pass. The quarterly upkeep pass is USD 1.60 per new or changed SKU in the list you send. It is invoiced when its file is delivered.

What is billed per SKU. A batch is billed per SKU in your order form, in the two halves above: a first batch at pilot approval and on delivery, a later batch when you accept its order form and on delivery. An upkeep pass is billed per SKU in your list when its file is delivered. A SKU on the flag list is billed like the others: it still gets its new title, description and every value we could verify, and the values we could not verify are left blank.

Never billed. A batch whose pilot you reject; checking and re-issuing values you report as wrong within the thirty days of fixes; any SKU outside your order form or list.

Payment instructions come with the invoice.

Cancelling an order

First catalog batch. Before you approve the pilot, you may cancel by replying CANCEL or by rejecting the pilot; the order ends and nothing is owed. After you approve the pilot, you may cancel by replying CANCEL: we stop work and send you the rows finished so far, the 50% invoiced at approval stays owed, and the 50% due on delivery is not invoiced. Our refund rule on the guarantee page still applies.

Later catalog batch. You may cancel by replying CANCEL: we stop work and send you the rows finished so far, the 50% invoiced when you accepted the order stays owed, and the 50% due on delivery is not invoiced. Our refund rule on the guarantee page still applies.

Upkeep pass. Each pass is a separate order; no pass is placed unless you send a list and accept its order form. You may cancel a pass before its file is delivered by replying CANCEL, and nothing is owed for it.

Guarantees and refunds

Every guarantee we offer, with its conditions, and our refund rule are on our guarantee page at https://catalogscribe.com/guarantee. A promise that is not on that page or in your order confirmation is not a guarantee we make.

How orders are made

We send you an order form by email from john@catalogscribe.com. It states what we will do, the price and the guarantee that apply. An order is made when you reply to it with your full name, your title, your company's name and the words "I agree"; that reply is your electronic signature on the order form. The order form and these terms are our whole agreement for that order; if they differ, the order form applies.

Your responsibilities

You confirm that the information and files you send us are accurate and that you have the right to give them to us for the work you order. You use what we deliver in compliance with the laws that apply to you.

You send us the product export, your platform's import template and any taxonomy file, approve the category schema and grade the pilot, as described in "What we do for paying customers". You import the file into your own store or PIM, and you decide what of it to publish.

Your material and our work

You keep all rights in the material you send us. Once you have paid for an order, what we deliver under it is yours to use and change. We keep the right to reuse our general methods and know-how, but not your material or your deliverables. How we handle personal information is described in our privacy policy at https://catalogscribe.com/privacy.

Confidentiality

We keep the non-public information you send us confidential, use it only to do your work, and share it only with the kinds of service providers our privacy policy names. This does not cover information that is public or that you have told us we may share.

No promise of results

We promise the work described in your order, not a business result such as replies, meetings, sales or revenue, unless a guarantee on our guarantee page says otherwise. Estimates, examples and benchmarks we share are not promises.

Complete, source-linked product pages are not a promise of more site searches, traffic, orders or sales; you can compare those in your own analytics before and after the import. A value taken from a manufacturer's spec sheet is only as accurate as that spec sheet.

Limitation of liability

Apart from the work described in your order and the guarantees on our guarantee page, we make no other warranties, express or implied. The free sample rewrite is provided as is.

Except for amounts you owe for work delivered, each party's total liability arising out of or relating to these terms or any order is limited to the amount you paid us under the order concerned in the 12 months before the claim arose. Neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data, even if told they were possible. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending an order

Either of us may end an order that is not yet finished, by email, if the other seriously breaks these terms and does not fix it within 15 days of being told. You then pay for the work delivered up to that point, and we refund what you paid for work not delivered.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms by publishing a new version on this page with a new effective date. An order keeps the terms in force when it was made. For a plan that renews automatically, we email you any change at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you may cancel before then.

Governing law and disputes

These terms and every order are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before either of us starts a legal claim, we try for 30 days to settle the matter by email. A claim that is not settled is brought only in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and both of us accept their jurisdiction.

General

You may not transfer an order to someone else without our agreement by email. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. Notices under these terms are given by email: ours come from john@catalogscribe.com, and yours go to hello@catalogscribe.com.
